What is Mushroom Beta Glucan?
Mushroom Beta Glucan is a polysaccharide compound derived from the fruit-body and mycelia (roots) of the mushrooms. Numerous studies have shown that this substance effectively enhances the immune system by activating the white blood cells including the macrophages, T cells, and the natural killer (NK) cells. The Macrophages (Monocytes), Granulocytes (Neutrophil, Eosinophils, and the Basophils), and the Natural Killer (NK) cells serve as the frontline of defense. In other words, it will not be recognized by the beta glucan receptors on the macrophage. Most beta glucans on the market are simply baker’s yeast, and / or crude, impure beta-glucan and will not have the full macrophage activating capability.
